Center for Transforming Lives (CTL) has partnered with Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas (LANWT) to increase access to legal services for program participants and people experiencing or exiting homelessness throughout Tarrant County. LANWT is a nonprofit law firm that provides free civil legal assistance to individuals and families in North and West Texas.

Legal advice or representation may be available to clients referred through the Continuum of Care (CoC) who are in need of legal assistance in one or more of the following areas:

  • eviction defense
  • landlord-tenant disputes
  • removing impediments to receive public housing benefits
  • repairs
  • probate matters to secure housing
  • public benefits and income maintenance
  • employment law matters, or
  • consumer law matters
To qualify, clients must:
  • be a resident of Tarrant County,
  • be a U.S. Citizen or qualify under another legal status (ex. Permanent residence, refugee, asylee),
  • be referred by a case manager through an agency that participates in the Continuum of Care (self-referrals are not accepted from the community),
  • have an income or resources that do not exceed 200% of the federal poverty level, and
  • be asset eligible (no more in family assets in excess of $10,000 for applicant plus $5,000 for each additional family member; home and vehicle are excluded)
