I can’t believe it has already been a year since we opened our doors at the Riverside campus. We had so many ambitious dreams and there was so much work to be done to make them come true. So many of those goals have been reached:
We reached our goal to serve more than 4,000 individuals through expanded programming, including:
Health care partnerships
Riverside Coworking
Launching the Community Outreach Fund which provides rent and utility assistance
All these services also provide opportunities to bring families into other services, such as counseling or child care. Whatever they need to take the next step toward well-being.
There have also been unexpected moments of joy where our reach has extended well beyond our grasp. Many of these are due to partnerships that would never have been possible in our former space.
Today we have more than ten healthcare partners: Abide provides prenatal care. Texas Health Resources offers screenings for a variety of health conditions to the uninsured. UNT Health offers pediatric care. Other partners provide healthy food, iron supplements, prenatal vitamins, vision screening and glasses, Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program enrollment, benefit enrollment in SNAP, WIC and more. It seems that new partners are joining forces with us weekly to bring high quality accessible healthcare to southeast Fort Worth. We support all these partners with our FREE drop-in childcare, reception, security, and space to expand their impact. We’ve become of one the largest sites offering health care in the east-side’s health care desert. Through our data sharing agreement, we’ll be able to show impact on the region.
The new space has also allowed us to begin offering workforce development training opportunities for mothers who experience child care as a barrier to education. We’ve already launched our first pilot with UNT Health’s Pharmacy Technician certificate program. We have enrolled twenty women in the course, providing scholarships, free drop-in child care, computer and Wi-Fi access, tutoring, and transportation assistance. Completion is expected within three months, and successful graduates will be placed into positions paying $45,000 or more. We have more of these life changing partnerships in the pipeline, offering everything from high school completion to forklift operation to patient care technician.
Our single-minded goal is to partner with mothers and their children as they work toward emotional and financial well-being for their families. Our beautiful campus has been a gathering site for hundreds of groups for networking, education, collaboration, and learning. The space is so serene and functional that it provides a unique opportunity for social interaction rarely found in a stratified society. Mothers who have been homeless are networking and building skills alongside serial entrepreneurs and business leaders, none the wiser of their difference in life circumstance.
Riverside is a truly safe space where people come for help, find community and leave transformed. YOU made that happen and we could not be more grateful.
