Clinical Counseling Therapist
The Clinical Counseling Therapist works side-by-side women and their children throughout Tarrant County to disrupt the cycle of poverty by providing comprehensive clinical counseling services. Duties include ensuring Clinical Counseling Services are delivered in a manner consistent with program design, including the Cycles of Well-being, Trauma-Informed Care core principles, a two-generation approach, and contract requirements. The Clinical Counseling Therapist is responsible for providing high quality Therapy utilizing a range of modalities: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma - Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy – or other evidence-based modalities that are proven effective in serving trauma. The Clinical Counseling Therapist may also act as a resource in training and consulting with CTL employees and partner agencies.
General:To assure service provision is aligned with the Center for Transforming Lives’ mission, core values, and strategic framework, the Clinical Counseling Therapist will:
1.Display CTL core values in the daily execution of job duties. Promote a unified, team-oriented atmosphere in all communications and actions. Present a professional appearance and demeanor. Effectively articulate CTL’s mission, vision, and message.
2.Adhere to and apply organizational and program specific Policy and Procedure and Council on Accreditation (COA) Standards.
3.Contribute to providing quality service in whatever capacity is required in accordance with skills and maintains awareness of trends and best practices, and counseling standards related to programs that address mental, behavioral, and emotional challenges.
4.Communicate effectively and timely with the Director of Clinical Counseling Services as needed, to ensure safe and clinically effective care is provided to all Program Participants.
5.Act as the primary point of contact for assigned Clinical program(s) in the absence of the Director of Clinical Counseling Services; and perform additional duties and participate on work committees as assigned.

Program Services:To provide a trauma-informed, two-generation array of sustainable, transformative services, that effectively address the root causes of poverty for women and children, the Clinical Counseling Therapist will:
1.Build safe, trusting relationships, and exercise appropriate boundaries and interactions with program participants.
2.Demonstrate deep understanding of trauma and the impact on adults and children as evidenced by application of trauma-informed (i.e., safety, trustworthiness, collaboration, empowerment, cultural competence), two-generation approach care principles through the provision of clinical services and decision making.
3.Provide intensive, culturally responsive, individualized, strength-based, therapeutic services through implementation of a trauma-informed, two-generation approach.
4.Attend and actively participate in trauma focused clinical consultation and individual and group supervision. Apply suggested trauma informed strategies and interventions consistently.
5.Implement Trauma-Informed Care and the use of Motivational Interviewing techniques designed to address ambivalence to change and promote program participant engagement and motivation.
6.Promote and support cross collaboration with internal and external programs and services to ensure women and their children are referred and linked to need driven supportive services, including Housing Services, Economic Mobility Services, Early Childhood Education, and community support services.
7.Review assessment activities used to identify strengths and needs (e.g., Transforming Lives Scale, ACE Questionnaire, etc.). Complete trauma screenings in strict adherence to related program Policy and Procedure. Compile into a trauma informed, strength-based, individualized plan of care. Utilize internal mechanisms to track timely completion of referrals, screening activities, and re-evaluations (i.e., TSI 2, TSCC, TSCYC, etc.). Update tracking mechanisms immediately upon completion.
8.Regularly facilitate partnership with program participants in treatment plan development, review, and updates. Assure program participants are treated as the experts and are actively engaged in all aspects of treatment planning and decision-making directly impacting their lives. Develop and implement safety plans, conducting ongoing review and updates.
9.Participate in Multidisciplinary Team Meetings (MDT) designed to determine program admission; monitor for progress; discharge readiness; identify areas of continued need; and recommend self-sufficiency, and mental health focused interventions, include emotional and physical safety.
10.Provide Clinical Counseling Services to an assigned caseload, displaying strong theoretical knowledge of mental health and emotional/behavioral concerns and demonstrates competent evidenced based treatment and culturally sensitive techniques.
11.Partner with and provides supportive therapeutic interventions to program participants, such as emotional regulation, to assist program participants’ management of emotional, mental, and behavioral needs.
12.Provide trauma informed individual therapy to program participants, demonstrating quality, evidenced based therapeutic knowledge and competence using various evidenced based modalities.
13.Facilitate trauma informed group therapy to program participants, including educational and life skill topics, demonstrating competent group facilitation techniques.
14.Review pertinent referral and assessment information from CTL departments and outside sources, as applicable.
15.Ensure program participant progress is regularly monitored including discharge readiness;identification of unmet needs; and mental health focused interventions through the use of Multidisciplinary Team Meetings (MDT). Participate in other consultations to represent the clinical needs of the program participant, as needed.
16.Follow all policies and procedures of the program to ensure the protection and safety of program participants.
17.Brings to Director of Clinical Counseling Service’s attention significant issues related to programfunctioning and program participant safety.
1.Ensure program participant’s understanding of informed consent, and completion of all screening, eligibility, and admission forms.
2.Complete clinical assessment and screening tools according to established time frames and compile into a trauma-informed, strength-based, culturally competent psychosocial assessment.
3.Partner with program participants in ensuring all Safety plans, including Intimate Partner Violence,are completed, for safety of program participants.
4. In partnership with each program participant, develop and implement an individualized treatment plan, monitor for progress in achieving goals, and revise as necessary.
5. Prepare, document, and maintain all therapeutic notes, records, reports, data, forms, and othernecessary clinical documentation, in a timely manner. All documentation must meet the required standards set by best practice standards as well as Federal and State regulations/rules.
6. Create and maintain a Participant Record Inventory for each program participant.
7. Prepare and/or complete other documentation as assigned.
Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI): To support implementation and maintenance of the organization’s CQI system and promote continuous quality and improvement, the Clinical Counseling Therapist will:
1.Support and promote positive program participant outcomes through the provision of evidence-based practices and implementation of the Cycles of Well-being.
2.Assist the organization with meeting its quality improvement, evaluation, and reporting requirements. Contribute to developing program outputs, outcomes measures, quality indicators, and targets.
3.Develop an understanding of basic CQI principles and tools. Know and understand Clinical Counseling Service's performance measures. Utilize internal tracking mechanisms to collect and track data monthly, quarterly, and annually.
4.Regularly review and cleanse data. Data cleansing involves checking for accuracy, completeness, timeliness, uniqueness, and outliers in order to improve the quality of data prior to aggregating and analysis. Read and interpret data reports and use data to improve performance and service quality. Complete and submit monthly/quarterly/annual reports timely, as applicable.
5.Participate in quarterly Continuous Quality Improvement Council (CQIL) meetings designed to prevent and manage immediate and ongoing risks related to service delivery, and evaluate program methodology, including barriers to receiving or successfully completing services.
6.Audit case records within established timeframes. Records are considered complete when all documents listed in the case record inventory are completed in adherence to program Policy and Procedure and approved by the Director of Clinical Counseling Services.
7.Conduct treatment planning reviews in accordance with accreditation standards. Assess for treatment plan implementation, progress towards achieving each service goal and desired outcomes and continuing appropriateness of agreed upon service goals.
8.Serve as a Peer Review Team Lead, as applicable. Coordinate and manage completion of quarterly case record reviews. Peer reviewers monitor case records for provision of service quality, barriers, and opportunities for improving services.
9.In conjunction with the Director of Clinical Counseling Services, as applicable, aid in development and participate in implementation of improvement plans that address identified areas in need of improvement over time at the program level. Ensure completion of corrective action plans related to risk management and or regulatory requirements.
10.Enroll and update program participant information in the appropriate database system and regularly update. Input Clinical case notes in the appropriate information system within three (3) days from the date of an interaction or action taken. Clinical case notes clearly document efforts to support and achieve service plan goals.
Risk Prevention and Management: To promote safe environments, health and well-being of women and children served, and reduce the potential for risks, the Clinical Counseling Therapist will:
1.Adhere to risk prevention and management practices and Policy and Procedure including but not limited protected health information (PHI), rights of program participants, and incident management. Transmit PHI in strict adherence to the organization’s confidentiality and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Policy and Procedure.
2.Adhere to the Case Record Content and Maintenance Policy and Procedure and comply with timely completion of documentation from entry through discharge.
3.Immediately report and appropriately respond to any suspicious and inappropriate behavior and reportable incident. Complete incident reports in adherence to Policy and Procedure.
4.Provide appropriate and timely crisis intervention. Participate in after-hour mental health crisis calls, as assigned, to assist and support management of safety risks and/or mental health emergencies and occurrences.
Training and Professional Development: To improve the knowledge base of employees, deepen their understanding of women and children living in poverty, and promote, continuous professional growth and development, the Clinical Counseling Therapist will:
1.Positively contribute to building and maintaining team morale and actively contribute to creating an atmosphere of problem solving and learning, and open and honest feedback.
2.Actively participate in individual and or group supervision and staff meetings. Utilize feedback and supervision to improve performance.
3.Complete Continuing Education training. Independently seek out resources and learning opportunities to foster ongoing professional growth. Maintains awareness of trends and best practices and is proactive in continually acquiring knowledge in fields related to women, crises management, and homelessness.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
A master’s degree from an accredited university or college with a major in counseling, social work, or psychology; and one of the following clinical licensures: LCSW, LMSW, LMFT, LMFT-Associate, LPC, LPC-Associate licensure with clinical experience providing trauma informed clinical services to adults and/or children.
Additionally, the Clinical Counseling Therapist will:
1.Demonstrate understanding about and compassion for the priority population served by CTL.
2.Build and maintain relationships with agency professionals within CTL and with external agency representatives and partners. Excellent writing and oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively articulate the CTL mission, vision and message, strong organizational skills.
3.Flexible, excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with all levels of management, staff, and children and families served. Demonstrate a commitment to working well with others.
4.Work independently with minimum supervision and maximum accountability. Demonstrate strong, creative, strategic, and analytical thinking skills.
5.Approach women and children served in a non-judgmental, compassionate, and strength-based, trauma-informed manner in order to effectively build alliance. Understand and show compassion as well as maintain professional therapeutic boundaries. Deal with sensitive situations in a non-threatening, professional and supportive manner; show initiative to see what needs to be done and willingness to do it; strong work ethic.
6.Demonstrate cultural competency through the ability to understand, communicate with and effectively interact with people of various cultural backgrounds. Have a deep understanding of and demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion especially as it relates to race and gender.
7.Demonstrate knowledge of Windows operating systems and Office products, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, or ability to learn them independently and to use them. Ability to learn and use any other software programs or applications needed in the operations of programs for the purposes of data collection and reporting.
8.Travel independently and timely for work purposes.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND HOURS:
Primarily office conditions, however local travel is required. Some work in storage areas. General working hours 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Flexible scheduling may be required. Some additional evening, early morning and weekend work may be required with this position. Flexibility in hours will be determined in consultation with supervisor.
